A series of highly significant documented revelations of research fraud by CDC – which falsely proclaims the MMR vaccine to be safe and effective — deserve full and independent investigation. The very reports that have been touted by CDC and vaccinologists as “conclusive” evidence of safety are shown to have been fraudulent. Their efficacy is being challenged by Former Merck Scientists Sue Merck MMR Efficacy Fraud: Merck & Co. is currently facing at least two lawsuits disputing the efficacy of the MMR vaccine: one suit alleges data manipulation and fraud, the other charges the manufacturer with inflating the price for a defective, ineffective vaccine.
The most astonishing aspect of this troubling saga is that the revelations of fraud have been unreported and unexamined in the pages of high profile medical journals. Apparently the gatekeepers of “evidence based medicine” deemed evidence of research fraud committed by those who formulate and enforce public health policy untouchable.
Thomas Verstraeten MD was the lead author of the first large-scale CDC epidemiological study that assessed the risk of thimerosal, the mercury preservative in vaccines, to autism. The study utilized a large U.S. database, and examined the medical records of 400,000 infants born 1991-1997. This major study provided scientific evidence documenting that exposure to thimerosal during the first month of life increased the relative risk of autism by 7.6%. The data revealed additional risks: a 1.8 increased relative risk for neurodevelopmental disorder; a 2.1 risk for speech disorder; and a 5.0 relative risk for nonorganic sleep disorder.
Dr. Verstraeten reported that ALL these relative risks were statistically significant. In June, 2000, he presented the evidence at an invitation only CDC Conference, secretly convened at Simpsonwood Center, Ga. (original Abstract (1999), released in 2016)Instead of directing manufacturers to eliminate thimerosal from vaccines, CDC concealed the scientific findings of its own scientist, and CDC officials embarked on sponsoring dubious multi-million dollar epidemiological studies that were designed to deliver “proof of innocence” to offset Dr. Verstraeten’s evidence documenting a thimerosal-autism risk. CDC continues to disseminate false reassurances claiming: “The evidence is clear: thimerosal is not a toxin in vaccines… there is no relationship between thimerosal-containing vaccines and autism in children.” (CDC “Science Summary Fact Sheet”)
Dr. Diane Simpson was the CDC official tasked with obtaining proof to offset Dr. Verstraeten’s finding of a thimerosal-autism risk. Discussions between Robert Chen MD, CDC chief of vaccine safety, Elizabeth Miller, UK public health official and Dr. Verstraeten are documented in internal CDC emails. They discussed national differences in exposure to thimerosal: the U.S. vaccination schedule exposes babies to much higher doses than babies in the U.K. They noted that Danish babies’ exposure to thimerosal does not come close to the exposure of U.S. babies –Danish babies receive 75% less thimerosal than U. S. babies. (Verstraeten email, 2001) Denmark’s autism rate is miniscule compared to the U.S.—in 2000, the autism rate in Denmark was 4/10,000; in the U.S. that year the rate of autism was 67/10,000.In an email addressed to Harvard professor, Dr. Philippe Grandjean, a renowned expert in heavy metals toxicity (with copies to six CDC scientists) Verstraeten expresses concern about scientific dishonesty:
“many experts looking at this thimerosal issue, do not seem bothered to compare apples to pears… I do not wish to be the advocate of the anti-vaccine lobby and sound like being convinced that thimerosal is or was harmful, but at least I feel we should use sound scientific argumentation and not let our standards be dictated by our desire to disprove an unpleasant theory.” (July 14, 2000)
Despite Dr. Verstraeten’s objection about scientific incompatibility (“apples to pears”) CDC chose Denmark as a comparator, and selected a Danish network of scientists who were either employed by the Danish vaccine manufacturer, Statens Serum Institut (SSI), or worked at institutions closely connected to SSI. CDC worked hand in glove with Dr. Poul Thorsen (a Danish psychiatrist) who had been a CDC “scientist in residence.” CDC provided tens of millions of dollars in grants managed by Thorsen at the University of Aarhus in Denmark. Dr. Simpson traveled to Denmark where she met with a network of Danish scientists. At Thorsen’s recommendation, she recruited epidemiologist Dr. Kreesten Madsen who was listed as the lead author several pivotal Danish epidemiological studies co-authored by Thorsen.
The Danish network reports were not scientifically sound; they were crafted and manipulated to provide CDC with what it sought: “strong evidence against the hypothesis that MMR vaccination cases autism.” The Danish epidemiological studies were pivotal in laying the foundation for CDC’s “authoritative” assertions that thimerosal was safe and vaccines did not pose a risk for autism. Four of these studies were published in the influential, journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Others were published in The New England Journal of Medicine, 2002; the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA, 2003).
Although these conclusions are invalidated by evidence from extensive toxicology and immunology reports (here, here) – and even a medical textbook: Vaccines and Autoimmunity edited by Yehuda Shoenfeld, (2015) has been written by leading researchers from 14 countries who focus on the role of adjuvants in vaccines and autoimmune consequences. Even after the methods that used in the Danish studies were shown to be fraudulent (Pub Med Research International, 2014) those reports continue to be widely cited in the medical literature. Their repudiation is not mentioned in the medical journals that have the greatest impact on medical practice.

A recent review by Dr. Brian Hooker, PhD, and his five co-authors analyzed six CDC- co-sponsored Danish studies. (Pub Med Research International, 2014) The study designs are shown to have been contrived to obfuscate the autism risk factor; and the epidemiological data about the autism rate following the removal of Thimerosal (mercury) from the MMR vaccine was falsified. These studies have not been retracted; they are still cited as evidence that Thimerosal and vaccines do not increase the risk of autism. (Read more here here, here, here)
In 2011, a case of massive research fraud was uncovered by the Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
The central figure was Dr. Poul Thorsen, CDC’s important research collaborator. Thorsen was indicted by a federal grand jury on 22 counts of forgery, money laundering, and embezzlement. He fled to Denmark to avoid prosecution but he continues to be listed on the IG most wanted fugitives.
Internal documents obtained by parents in 2011, under the Freedom of Information Act, expose collusion by CDC officials – Dr. Diane Simpson, Dr. Coleen Boyle, and CDC researcher Dr. Diana Schendel –in the preparation for publication of the “conclusive” pivotal report, Thimerosal and the Occurrence of Autism: Negative Ecological Evidence From Danish Population-Based Data, co-authored by Dr. Madsen, Dr. Thorsen, Dr. Schendel, et al. and published in Pediatrics (2003).
The report purports to be an analysis of the Danish Psychiatric Registry from 1971 – 2000, to determine whether the removal of Thimerosal from children’s vaccines in Denmark (in 1992) decreased the incidence of autism. The authors’ conclusion is regularly cited by CDC as “conclusive” evidence to justify its irresponsible vaccination policy.
“The discontinuation of thimerosal-containing vaccines in Denmark in 1992 was followed by an increase in the incidence of autism. Our ecological data do not support a correlation between thimerosal-containing vaccines and the incidence of autism.”
The new analysis documents that these claimed findings are contradicted by more than 165 published studies (listed here)
These studies reported thimerosal to be harmful. They note that sixteen of these reports examined mercury’s effect in infants and children; and these studies reported that the children suffered severe outcomes including, death, allergic reaction, malformation, auto-immune reaction, developmental delays, and autism. Dr. Hooker and colleagues identified major methodological flaws, inconsistencies, and outright falsification in the CDC-sponsored Danish reports. For starters, the 2003 Pediatrics study co-authored by the fugitive, Poul Thorsen, “Master Manipulator” (2016) inserted multiple biases to obtain the desired study finding:
(a) The authors used inconsistent inclusion criteria for the comparative populations: Between 1971-1994, only children treated in hospitals were included; whereas between 1995 –2000 the inclusion criteria was much expanded to include both inpatients and outpatients. This created an “artificial increase” in autism prevalence after Thimerosal had been removed.
(b) The authors conceded that the proportion of outpatients to inpatients was “about 4 to 6” but their concession does not match their disclosure in an earlier published report (2002) about the same dataset in which they reported: “in our cohort, 93.1% of the children were treated only as outpatients…”
(c) Diagnosis criteria for “autism” changed in Denmark, in 1994, leading to an approximate 5-fold increase in autism cases.
(d) Further skewing the results was the exclusion – before 1992 – of the largest outpatient clinic in Copenhagen, comprising 20% of autism cases in Denmark. This fact was not disclosed by the authors.
(e) The most egregious scientific violation committed by the authors, rises to the level of deliberate scientific fraud – they excluded from the published Pediatrics report, autism incidence numbers in 2001:
“The 2001 data [ ] showed a strong downward trend in autism rates in at least two of the three age groups (continuing from 1999 through 2001), was not included in the final publication.” They reported instead that the prevalence rate of autism after removal of thimerosal, increased 20-fold between 1990 and 1999.”
Dr. Paul Offit, director of the Vaccine Education Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, is the vaccine lobby’s most unequivocal defender — whose own profit from his patent for the rotavirus vaccine, Rotateq (licensed to Merck) is estimated at at least $30 million by the year 2009. He is quoted in Philadelphia Inquirer stating:
“even if the allegation against Thorsen is true, it does not mean his science is bad…Let’s assume it is true that he embezzled money, the notion that it casts the science into question is false. For these big epidemiological studies, it is hard to believe that one person could effectively change the data.”(March, 2010)
So much for Dr. Offit’s regard for the integrity of science. We believe that even if the allegations of embezzlement are not true, the evidence that the science is fraudulent is indisputable. By altering the inclusion criteria the methodology was invalidated; the authors’ failure to report crucial findings invalidated the conclusions and relegated the study to the ash heap of fraudulent science. Dr. Hooker traces the route that led to the publication of the Madsen/Thorsen/Schendel, et al report. It was rejected for publication by the Lancet and by the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). A written communication between Dr.Thorsen and CDC official, Coleen Boyle (2003) reveals that when the paper was first submitted to Pediatrics with the 2001 data included; it was criticized by one of the peer-reviewers:
“The drop of incidence shown for the most recent years is perhaps the most dramatic feature of the figure, and is seen in the oldest age group as well as the youngest.” The reviewer questions the authors’ failure to discuss “the possibility that this decrease might have come about through elimination of [T]himerosal.”
Rather than deal honestly with “the most dramatic feature” of their findings, the authors, in collaboration with CDC, withheld the 2001 findings from their final published study – thereby committing scientific fraud. Fearing that the report would be rejected, CDC co-author, Diana Schendel asked José Cordero MD, Assistant Surgeon General of the CDC to use his influence and submit the article for publication with an accompanying letter to the editor in chief of Pediatrics, stressing the importance of the article.
That such a deliberately manipulated, fraudulent report was published in an “authoritative” “high impact” journal – whose editors knew that the 2001 data was omitted from the final version – reveals much about the corrupted vaccine literature. For more than a decade the only criticism raised about the Madsen /Thoresen studies was from within alternative news sources –e.g., Mark Blaxill, Director of Safe Minds, who wrote “Danish Thimerosal-Autism Study in Pediatrics: Misleading and Uninformative… September 2, 2003
“It would be difficult to overstate the cataclysmic impacts of Thorsen’s mischief on global health. The study he is accused of fabricating was an instrumental piece of evidence cited by The Institute of Medicine to justify its infamous 2004 conclusion that thimerosal was not causing autism. IOM’s declaration laid the foundation for dismissal of some 5,000 autism cases by the United States Court of Claims (The Vaccine Court). The Madsen et al. 2003 study has been repeatedly cited by public health agencies to justify the inclusion by CDC of thimerosal in 50 million flu shots given to Americans, including pregnant women, and the World Health Organization’s (WHO) decision to inoculate 100 million children in developing nations annually with thimerosal preserved vaccines.”

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has compared corrupt vaccine science to corrupt tobacco science. Here is how we think they compare:
Both industries’ criteria for research discourages studies that might document risks;
Both industries suppressed research results that detected serious health risks;
Both industries hired biased researchers who corrupted the evidence;
Both industries blatantly lied to the public;
But only the vaccine industry has the backing of the CDC
We were gratified to discover that contrary to the pharmaceutical supported chorus of biased vaccinoogists, a large and growing body of scientific research – by toxicologists, immunologists, and honest epidemiologists – confirms and amplifies the safety problems raised by Dr. Wakefield about the MMR vaccine; and the problem with adjuvants in vaccines generally. (Read our compilation, * Scientific reports validate Dr. Wakefield’s Lancet report)
How is one to explain that in 2011, at the very time that the editor of the BMJ embarked on a smear campaign calculated to cause the greatest damage to Dr. Wakefield, the BMJ ignored entirely, the fraud committed by Drs. Poul Thorsen and Kreesten Madsen in collaboration with the CDC scientists and officials? Their documented research fraud derailed children’s lives, causing hundreds of thousands of children life-long disability.
Senior CDC scientist blows the whistle acknowledging fraud.
In 2013, Dr. William Thompson, senior epidemiologist at the CDC stepped forward and confessed that the pivotal study by the CDC, published in the journal of the American Association of Pediatrics (2004) entitled “Age at first measles-mumps-rubella vaccination in children with autism and school-matched control subjects: a population-based study in metropolitan Atlanta,” was manipulated, to cover-up evidence of risk, documents were destroyed. Its claimed findings were, therefore, fraudulent. Dr. Thompson provided detailed primary evidence in 1,000 pages of CDC documents showing the agency’s scientists were engaged in vaccine research fraud with the full knowledge of highest CDC officials. CDC issued fraudulent public reports that concealed the risks the MMR vaccine posed for African American baby boys – as if Black Lives don’t matter.
Dr. Thompson provided the original primary data from the CDC fraudulent study (2004) to Dr. Brian Hooker, a bioengineer who re-analyzed the data, including the data omitted from CDC’s published study. “The present study provides new epidemiologic evidence showing that African American males receiving the MMR vaccine prior to 24 months of age or 36 months of age are more likely to receive an autism diagnosis.”
Dr, Hooker’s analysis was accepted for publication by the journal, Translational Neurodegeneration and published online on August 8, 2014. But soon after, it was “removed from the public domain because of serious concerns about the validity of its conclusions.” (The article is posted on the “open access” Pub Med Central website – at least for now)
In 2015, Thompson submitted his documentation to Congressman Bill Posey, R-Florida who made several impassioned speeches from the House floor, reading segments from the documents to underscore the need for a Congressional hearing. Sharyl Attkisson former CBS health news reporter noted for her fearless reporting –including the untouchable subjects – noted:
“In an untainted news environment, the allegations would make headlines in most legitimate publications and would trigger federal inquiries. However, the interests of the powerful pharmaceutical industry reach deeply into Congress and the news media through lobbyists, propaganda and advertising dollars” (sharylattkisson.com/cdc-scientist)
Thompson went on to acknowledge: “There is biological plausibility right now to say thimerosal causes autism-like features.” And he disclosed that vaccinating pregnant women with a vaccine laced with thimerosal poses “clear and present danger” to the unborn child in the form of “ticks” – involuntary repetitive motor movements or vocal sounds. CDC has recommended flu shots for pregnant women.
A Monumental betrayal of the public trust
The CDC bears responsibility for (a) concealing vaccine safety data and (b) adhering to an aggressive commercially-driven vaccination schedule, recklessly exposing vulnerable individuals whose immune systems cannot tolerate the multiple toxins in vaccines. World renowned authority on autoimmunity, Professor Yehuda Shoenfeld MD has taken seriously the “double-edged sword” of vaccines.
“Vaccinations can provide an important protection from diseases like polio, rubella, measles, etc. However, there are several reports in the literature of onset of autoimmune disease within weeks or months from vaccinations.” Professor Shoenfeld is conducting serious honest research to identify the specific harm producing adjuvants in vaccines; and in devising screening mechanisms to identify those individual children at risk.
(Read: Yehuda Shoenfeld MD, “‘ASIA’ - Autoimmune/Inflammatory Syndrome Induced by Adjuvants,” Journal of Autoimmunity, 2011; “Predicting Post-Vaccination Autoimmunity: Who Might be at Risk?” Journal of Pharmacological Research, 2015)
Evidence of research fraud by the CDC scientists — with full knowledge and approval by CDC leadership — is a monumental betrayal of the public trust by an agency entrusted with protecting the public health to ensure the safety and efficacy of vaccines that are injected into our babies and young children. The revelations should have brought the house of cards down. Instead, the medical journals and the media continue to vent their furry by attacking Dr. Wakefield – who harmed no child – and denigrating parents of autistic children, while turning a blind eye to the preventable catastrophic harm that victimizes hundreds of thousands of children and their families. CDC has defiantly refused to share vaccine safety data with independent scientists. It took intervention by congressmen to wrench data for independent analysis. (here)
How is one to explain that in 2011, at the very time that the editor of the BMJ embarked on a smear campaign calculated to cause the greatest damage to Dr. Wakefield, the BMJ ignored entirely, the fraud committed by Dr. Poul Thorsen and Dr. Kreesten Madsen in collaboration with the CDC scientists and officials? Their documented research fraud derailed children’s lives, potentially causing hundreds of thousands of children life-long disability. The BMJ editor also did not see fit to report the allegations of vaccine research fraud made by Dr. Thompson, CDC’s senior epidemiologist. Her stated objective was to “close the door on this damaging vaccine scare.”
It should be noted, however, that she was not alone. A consensus seems to have taken root within the channels that disseminate medical information; including the journals and the mainstream media not to report the falsification of the vaccine research database. The foundation upon which CDC’s vaccination schedule relies on, is fraudulent research. Reports that covered up debilitating harmful effects in some children following vaccination derailed those children’s lives, condemning them to life-long suffering. The clinical and scientific evidence was broadcast only by alternative health information channels.
